The Big Move
Both Steve and I grew up in the soggy Willamette Valley of Oregon up in the Northwestern part of the United States. I have some great memories of adventures to the rugged Oregon coast, the magnificent Columbia Gorge and my favorite part of the state, Central Oregon. Oregon is a beautiful state, but as I got older, the 8-9 months of dark, gloomy skies wore me down.
My parents had moved to Arizona and the more Steve and I visited the state, the more we realized how much better we felt in the sunshine. Oregon summers are the best, but we realized that in Arizona we could be adventuring outdoors 8-9 months a year, instead of Oregon’s 3-4.
So, in December of 2017, we made the move and couldn’t be happier. We landed in a suburb of Phoenix, and we love it here. This state offers so much to explore with its diverse landscapes and varied climates!
In the winter we can catch some cool sunny rays in the morning and within a couple of hours be playing in the snow. Sweltering summer days invite lazy Saturdays in the pool. Phoenix Spring and Fall weather is perfection and it’s hard to want to stray far away from home.
While I do miss Oregon’s colorful autumn foliage and cutting down our own Christmas tree, we happily visit areas of the state that display gorgeous fall color and contentedly pick out a Christmas tree at tents that advertise “Real Oregon Trees!” Plus, we get a kick out of cacti covered in lights and wearing Santa hats!
